Growing up in the foot hills of the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina led to my appreciation and love of flowers. Some of my earliest memories are of my Grandmother’s vegetable garden. Among her tomatoes and beans she nestled marigolds and nasturtiums.
I can still smell the sweet peas that clung to her garden fence. Many of her blooms found their way into the family bible. A stem of lily of the valley is all that is left now.
In 1992 I began pressing flowers and designing art using plants and flowers. I’ve always enjoyed art, but became totally absorbed with the art of ‘painting with petals’! Now I find myself in the beautiful prairies of South Dakota! My husband, who was born in Webster, SD, longed to return to the place of his youth. Once more I have been inspired by the beauty around me. I am fortunate enough to live in an area that is abundant with wild flowers. And, oh, what majestic sunsets we have here!

"BROOK IN THE WOODS"

The tree trunks are of amaryllis leaves. Portabella mushrooms are used for the rocks and the thin membrane between the layers in an onion are used to create the water over the rocks. Other materials used are: Japanese painted fern, alyssum, coral bells,golden rod, mother of thyme sprigs and maidenhair fern.

"BOUQUET BY THE WINDOW" Original Art
10" X 10" with a 3 3/4" double mat. Framed in an elegant 2 1/2" mottled copper/dark brown frame. The background is of poinsettia leaves, and the window is made of coral bell leaves, poinsettia and white poplar leaves. The vase is made of rose petals and fall colored maple leaves. The tablecloth is made of white poplar and the flowers in the vase are tulips, paper whites, lobelia, grape hyacinth and kalanchoe. This piece was inspired by Russian pressed flower artist/author Lyudmila Beletskaya.

Sky and water is made of birch bark. The trees are made of various skeletonized leaves and roots of raspberry. The muskrat houses are made of fall day lily leaves. White poplar and fall leaves are used to make the mallards.

"FRONT PORCH OF LIFE"

Original art was the First Place winner at the 2010 Philadelphia International Flower Show. The walls and floor are made of fall day lily leaves. The window panes are made of black hibiscus petals. White poplar leaves are used for the window frames, window box and the watering can. Flowers in the window box are oregano blooms, alyssum, candytuft, mother of thyme sprigs and bachelor button petals. The gloves are made of fall leaves.

"PEONIES IN A BLUE BOWL" Original Art
5" X 7" pressed flower art with a 3" double mat of a mottled beige color with a darker brown inside mat color. The wood frame is a brushed silver color and measures about 2 1/2" wide...simple, yet elegant. Awarded a

ribbon in its category in the 2008 World Wide Pressed Flower Guild Conference Competition. The bowl is created with delphinium petals, the walls are of fall day lily leaves, the table is of fall amaryllis leaves, the window is of the white poplar leaf, the window panes are of tulip petals and the book is of rose petals. The peonies are the petals of this lovely flower that have been pulled apart, pressed and then reconstructed.
